Olympic Blues

Yes, we are having Olympic blues right now. Watching the breathtaking games are exciting and fun. My husband and I misses watching the competing athletes and hearing the cheering crowd. Sigh. We'll have to wait four years again. Looking forward to Olympics in London, I bet it will be awesome as usual.

What Are The Causes of Your Headache: Part 2

As a reply to my friend's request, I have posted previously the information about headache's common triggers. And here's the continuation of the topic.

Though some headaches are symptoms of other illnesses and conditions, such as high blood pressure or lupus, 90 percent are primary headaches, a category that includes cluster, tension-type and migraine headaches.

Migraines
- Most people associate migraines with nausea, one-sided pain and sensitivity to light and sound, but these symptoms are inconsistent because there is a wide spectrum of migraine headaches.

Tension-type headaches
- They are marked by a tightening sensation and affect both sides of the head. They may also be chronic, occurring frequently or even every day.

Sinus headaches
- People with sinus problems will definitely experience headaches.

Cluster headaches
- These are relatively rare, and 85 percent of sufferers are male. The headaches come in "clusters", with severe, one-sided pain attacks lasting from 15 minutes to three hours and recurring as often as two to five times a day for weeks at a time.

Environmental Changes
- For some individuals a scent of bleach or ammonia can set their head pounding. For others, exposure to paint, smoke, scented candles or perfume does the trick. More environmental triggers include the flicker of fluorescent lighting and a change in altitude, which is something to remember when you're planning a vacation. Air travel, in particular, is a headache minefield: altitudinal changes, time zone differences, low moisture levels in the cabin, disrupted sleep and heavily processed airline food are all potential triggers.

Pain Medication
- Headache pain remedies can do more harm than good if they're used too frequently and over an extended period. So be careful.

If I will select which category triggers my headache, I will say it's the Migraines and Environmental Changes.

The Dishwasher and Disposal Are Fixed

When I was cleaning off the clutters in the kitchen yesterday, I noticed that the disposal is not working. Then when I was done loading the dishes in the dishwasher and starting it on, there was no water. I wonder what happened so I called the apartment's office and asked for a maintenance staff to come over to check the disposal. The maintenance guy came this morning and fixed the problem. He said the blades got stuck up. I am relieved that the sink disposal and the dishwasher is fixed. Right now, the dishes and utensils are enjoying their bath (smiles).

My Nephew Is Giving Me A Big Smile

I spoke with Jen, my sister-in-law, over the phone few hours ago and she said she has posted pictures of Russel in Friendster. Russel just turned one year old last month. Jen said that her son is starting to show brightness. That is good to hear that my nephew is a smart boy. I am so happy seeing new pictures of my nephew. I love them. I picked this one to post in here. Ah...I was touched again with Jen's caption on this photo.

Rainy and Cold

Oh it is rainy and cold today. I am feeling lazy when it is raining like this. All I want to do is lie on the couch and watch television. Or listening to music until I fall asleep is a good idea too. Hhhmm...maybe later. I have some stuff to do over the internet and post updates in my blogs.

Planning To Work Soon

I think I have come to the point where I need to get myself busy. Well, I am busy at home. What I mean is the idea of working again comes into my mind. My husband and I talked about it lately. He is okay with the idea of me working again.

There are lots of career options running in mind right now. But I find some to be quite difficult for me to acquire. It is required to have a certificate when you apply for a job here in America. Since health care workers are in demand, becoming a nursing assistant or a nurses aid is a good idea. With the high efficiency of the internet, enrolling to nursing assistant courses and take classes online is convenient for everyone who aspires to work in the health care field. As a nursing assistant or nurses aid, you work closely with patients. So a complete knowledge on certain basic skills is required to better patient care. This is the advantage of getting an accredited Nursing Assistant Program Online to become a certified nursing assistant.

Taking It Easy

I am taking it easy today because I was tired cleaning and tidying up the apartment yesterday for the reason that there are visitors coming. My brother-in-law came over last night with his son. Now, we are heading out of town this weekend. 'Going to be busy running errands. Then we will relax after they're done.

Congratulations to Liukin, Johnson, and Yilin!

It was a very incredible win for gymnasts Nastia Liukin and Shawn Johnson in the all-around finals in Beijing Olympics Friday. Liukin got high scores almost in all of the rotations. Though Johnson made mistakes, she did well in the floor exercise. Both American girls got a very fantastic finish in the floor exercise that led them getting the gold and silver medals then Yilin for the bronze. Congratulations to you!

Join The Global Olympic Handshake

Angel Baby of Yourcaringangels shared this article with me. I chose to post it here. I am all for peace and a peaceful solution to problems around the world. Since we are all into peace and sportsmanship, I am inviting you to join me in this global handshake which will go all round the world to the Beijing Olympics.

The following message from the wonderful people at Avaaz is very much in this spirit:

As the Beijing Olympics begin, the world looks on with mixed emotions. This is a moment which should bring us closer together, and Chinese citizens deserve their excitement — but the Chinese government still has not opened meaningful dialogue on Tibet, or changed its stance on Burma, Darfur and other pressing issues.

Riots and disruptions of the Olympic torch relay have only helped nationalists whip up Chinese anger. But we cannot stay silent — so what can we do? The answer comes from the Dalai Lama himself, in an unambiguous gesture of Olympic spirit and friendship: a handshake.

It began in London, passed hand to hand by thousands of us — now the handshake has gone online, and is criss-crossing the globe on its way to Beijing. All of us can join, Chinese and non-Chinese, and it comes with a promise: to hold ALL our governments accountable where they fall short, in Tibet, Iraq, Burma or beyond. We will deliver our message in a bold Olympic media campaign before the closing ceremonies: Click here to see how the handshake started, sign up to join in, and watch it circle the globe.

Dating 101

Dating is fun if you are with a man who has lots of humor and enjoyable to be with. I started dating when I was in high school. The first one was a group date with my classmates together with their crushes. We were all sitting under the tree in the school ground. One of the boys brought a guitar while the girls got snacks and drinks. We sang, tease, and laugh. Then we were into pairs and started sweet talks after. Dating is fun as long as you know your limitations.

I appreciate Pinaywife for sharing me this tag.

Be A Skin-Savvy

Caring for our skin is one of the most important concerns when it comes to health and beauty. We want our skin to look young and vibrant as possible. Of course, we hate it when our skin is dry, dull, and irritated. I hope these advice will be of help to beauty conscious women like me.
  • Wash with care - avoid harsh soaps or overly hot water.
  • Become a sleeping beauty - sleep early and apply a night cream before going to bed.
  • Do not smoke - smoking not only wreaks havoc in your lungs, it also makes your skin age quickly.

Welcome to the USA, Marly!

I am so happy about the approval of my Application to Register for Permanent Residency. I got the official notification yesterday from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) welcoming me as new resident. They said that I will be receiving my resident card in the next three weeks. To my surprise, I received my permanent residency card today! Yeehaw! That was quick.

After a very long process and waiting, this is a relief to me and my husband. Not mentioning the increasing fees and travel, I guess it's worth it. I am now a legal resident of the USA.

Love Your Hair

My friend Nori had her hair cut Thursday. She said it is getting long and like me, she is not able to manage it because of the busy working schedule. She added that her hair easily gets split ends. She is having a hard time looking for hair care products. I told her to get herself Wen Hair Care products. The Styling Crème, Cleansing Conditioner, and the Re Moist Intensive Hair Repair Mask suits her good because it is formulated to moisturize, polish, and strengthen each hair strand that prevents split ends. The hair looks and smells amazing after. I like the thought that Wen Hair Care is ideal for all hair lengths, shapes, and types. And I love the Sweet Almond Mint scent of the conditioner. Certainly, using these products to maintain our hair's beauty is a rewarding choice. So, there are no worries for Nori and also for me.

Little Chair

We bought this little chair from a church garage sale in Wylie. It's only worth a dollar. My honey said we can use it as a stand for a pot of plant or something. But I am not going to use it that way. This little chair is too pretty for that. So, I just use it whenever I do my nails once in a while and I sit on it when I do my gardening work.

Small Business Financing

Whenever my friends and I got the chance to talk, one of the topics was about investments. Investment like engaging into a business is I guess a good thing to do. Planning to have a business is very complex and picturing the plan on how to start is quite confusing.

Small business financing companies might be of great help to people who are planning to put up a business. There are many loan companies everywhere but Unsecured Solutions gives the convenient financing scheme with affordable rates and great terms that cannot be found anywhere else. Online access with them is easy because loan types like start-up loan, personal loan, and small business loan are suitably categorized for borrowers’ needs. Loans can be used to finance a business’ expenses like payroll, advertisements, revolving fund, and others. And applicants can actually check their pre-qualification in two minutes in their website.

Putting up a business needs good planning, keen feasibility study, and capital, of course. Along with this, getting the right financing can be a complicated and overwhelming task. Unsecured Solutions’ loan consultants will guide borrowers through their small business loans application.

We are so concerned about the tough economic situation right now. We cannot even depend on a job especially when the salary is not enough. And thinking about having a small business would be simple with the assistance of Unsecured Solutions. My friends will definitely consider this idea.

Yea I know it is Saturday but I don't care. I still want to post my Friday snaps entry (smiles). It is because I want to share my mini rose to everybody. A Bit of Drama

I don't want to be emotional today but I can't help it. 'Had a chance to chat with my brother-in-law, my younger sister's husband. He is currently working in Saudi Arabia as a laborer. I haven't spoken with him for almost a year until today. Something happened before between him and my sister that made me and my family mad at him. On that situation, the responsibility for his family became ours. The ill feelings were too much that brought some conflicts in the family.

Until now, honestly, I still have it. But I am telling myself to put the ill feelings away because my brother-in-law is doing his best working for his family in the Philippines. I was kind of dramatic when I spoke to him today. Especially when he said "I love my family. I hope Tatay and Mama, and you are not mad at me anymore". I told him that what happened in the past was unexpected. What's important is we learned our lesson from the mistakes done before. And his married relationship with my sister will become stronger at all times.

I want to tell my brother-in-law and my sister that whatever happens, the family is always here.

What Are The Causes of Your Headache?

I had some small chat with my high school friend who is currently living in Singapore. She's been there for almost a year now. I told her about how I am having fun with blogging. She asked me if it is okay with me to post an entry about migraine and headache. I said, "Sure". I hope she'll appreciate this post. Some of the contents is from a magazine article I read before. It is really annoying whenever we have a headache and even migraine. Yes I have migraine. Based on my own experiences, I tell you it is a disaster whenever I get one. I used to read health magazines, leaflets, information booklets, and even posters discussing about headaches like what are the causes or triggers and their types.

Though the causes of headaches are not fully understood, experts believe that certain substances can trigger painful episodes in some people simulating the nervous system to release chemicals that make the brain's blood vessels expand. As they swell, more chemicals are released, irritating surrounding tissues and causing pain.

Common Triggers

Food and Drink - Some people who have migraine headaches, eating and drinking can be risky. They are troubled by artificial sweeteners, sodium nitrite and nitrate, preservatives in meat like in luncheon meats, ham, bacon and others. Even white wine, red wine, champagne can pack a punch, as alcohol causes the brain's blood vessels to swell. (I drink wine and champagne but I am a moderate drinker). How about chocolates? I love chocolates. Though it is often removed from the diet, new research suggests it might be the trigger once thought. Caffeine can work both ways: in some people, like me, moderate amounts (a cup of coffee a day, for example) can ease a headache by tightening the brain's blood vessels; for others, any amount might flip the headache switch.

Hormones -Statistics says that roughly 70% of adult migraine sufferers are women. According to a doctor-director of the Women's Comprehensive Headache Center at Roosevelt Hospital in New York City, fluctuations in estrogen levels are to blame. Menstruating women are hit hardest two or three days before their periods when levels of estrogen are dropping. Those using birth control pills are also vulnerable. (And I may say that I am also one of the women who has hormonal imbalance).

Lifestyle Factors - Low blood sugar levels caused by skipping or delaying meals can bring on a headache, as can dehydration and sleeping too much or too little. (I believe on these). Although it is impossible to get rid of stress, keeping levels manageable can help eliminate one trigger: the "letdown" period immediately after a difficult time, such as a thorny work project. That is why our parents are always telling us to eat meals on time.

Note: Continuation of this post is on my next entries. I need to get some sleep.
