Apartment For Rent

A friend of mine just flew abroad with her husband.  They are starting a new life as a newly wed so, they are renting an apartment for now.  After shopping for cheap and convenient place to live in, they finally found Calgary apartments for rent.

Falconcrest Village located in the Northeast Calgary offers as low as $863 a month with two spacious bedrooms and one bathroom.  Good price for two persons for a start.  My friend likes it there because it is close to the airport and mall.  Oh yeah, she likes shopping too.  I miss her already.

Catching Up

My cousin called and we talked, for like, two hours! We haven't talked for a while because she was very busy with their moving. So today's a catch up :) They found an apartment somewhere north of Plano. According to her description, it seems like a nice place.

Oh and, she will be having her baby shower this month. I am so excited! I bet she is too.

Experiencing The Hassle Of Moving

I bet my cousin and her husband started hauling their stuff to their new place in Plano. She said they found an apartment there. Good thing help is available for movers like them because we cannot come to assist them on weekdays. I am glad she found the moving services in town.

For the first time, my cousin experiences the hassle of moving. It is not easy. And I agree. We have been into that situation before. The not-so-good part was, I still had the jetlag when my honey and I moved. Anyway, thanks to the friends who recommended moving companies to choose from. But in situation like this, moving quotes should be considered before committing to avail the services.

Getting A Head Start On The Move

Moving means there are so many things that need to be done. I knew I needed to get a head start on it all, so before I even had the home picked out I was ordering boxes online packing the things I knew I was not going to need.

Choosing the perfect apartment was so hard. After hours and hours of research and phone calls, I decided on a nice 2 bedroom apartment that was large and spacious. Inside the apartment were a fireplace and a jacuzzi. I knew I was going to love it!

As soon as the deposit was paid, the rest of the arrangements for the move were made. Since the new apartment is only one city over, most of my utilities were able to just be transferred. That made it so much easier! I had to notify my Internet provider of my move since it is wireless. Luckily service was available in my new city.

I also decided it would be best to have ADT All Home Security installed in my new apartment. I was able to find a great company in the new city on the Internet. The move has been great, and I could not be happier with the great apartment!

Moving Soon

At the end of this month we are giving our 60-day notice to the apartment leasing office. We are moving soon. We need more room for the new member of the family. Plus, paying two storage rooms (for the house's furniture and fixtures) in two years is too much and needs to be lowered down.

It is time to change pace. Though looking for a place to rent and moving is a lot work, the challenge is always ahead. The expenses is getting higher now. We need to cut some of them down for the betterment of our financial status and in preparation for the coming of our little one.

In The Gym...For The First Time

I woke up late yesterday morning because it was my day off. Laziness struck me first thing in the morning. How about that?

To keep my blood in good circulation, I went out for a walk while the sunshine is still fresh. I decided to go to the apartment's gym, for the first time. There were few residents in there, so I tried running on one of the treadmill. I had no plan of giving myself a sweat but I was. No towel in handy. A thought came to me when I was looking around...we rented a locker in the gym. I just have no idea if the lease renewal automatically renew the lockers rent. The wood lockers are not bad. To me they are just great for apartments. And it is easy for residents to grab their towels or drinks from the gym lockers whenever they do their daily exercises in the gym.

I was sweating on my way back to the apartment. After a few minutes of rest, I took a nice shower. Refreshing :)

Additional Charge For A Month-to-Month Basis Rental

The apartment lease renewal letter was received recently. It states that we can still avail the current rent rate if we renew our lease for another seven months. If we are not renewing, they will charge us $ 25.00 addition to the rent rate if we decide to go month-to-month basis.

My honey was thinking to go month-to-month because he does not want to be tied with another contract. And if we want to move, we just have to inform the office 60 days immediately, without waiting for the lease to expire. Also, another reason why we want the month-to-month basis is that, we would want to move in a two-room apartment unit where we can have enough space for our furniture, which is currently in storage. We have our bedroom furniture set in there. But we have the sofa and some living room furniture with us here in the apartment.

Hopefully, if we become stable in our jobs right now, we will be able to buy a new house where we can put all our furniture in there. That, also, depends if our current house for sale will get sold soon.

Door Lock And Shower Knob

My honey did some repair job in the apartment-the front door lock and the shower knob. The shower knob is broken that is why the water kept on dripping. The front door's lock does not slide all the way into the hole. So he went to Lowe's and bought a rust removal spray, and a new knob for the shower. Now we can lock the door very securely. The shower? Dripping no more.

My Neighbor Is Moving

The neighbor living in front of our apartment unit is leaving. She said is having a hard time right now. I can see that. Though she often does her grocery shopping, she does it alone. I helped her carry the groceries in her apartment one time. Those were heavy because had milk and juice there. She mentioned that her son is moving her to a more convenient place. He is putting her in a retirement home. My neighbor was curios about this retirement home. She was was trying to ask me if I have any idea about it. I said nothing more than it is a home for elderly. Well, sounds like I need to know more.

Modern Upgrade

After the rains on Sunday, here comes sunny day. I can tell the Spring rains pour in preparation for the coming Summer.

In my apartment we do not have any thing to help us cool off besides the air-conditioner. My honey said that the electric bill increases during the Summer. And the goal is to minimize the bill to 50%. I guess the best idea is to ask for ceiling fans upgrade here in the apartment. We have renewed our lease and the office said an upgrade is a benefit.

We would like to look for modern ceiling fans. I am not sure if the leasing office allows us to choose what we want to install. But if we are, the suited fans for our unit is Casablanca ceiling fans. They look like the ones we have at the house in Nevada.

Severe Thunderstorm Watch

We have a severe thunderstorm watch tonight. It is very unexpected. It is raining here right now and I cannot put my plants outside because I am scared of lightning. I hope the power will not mess with me again tonight. I have a couple of jobs to do and some of them are close to their expiration. Last night was disappointing. The power went off suddenly that brought darkness in the whole apartment complex. Gosh! I was caught off guard.

The weather is getting worse. I see flashes of lightning outside the window. I have to shut down this computer for now. I will be right back.

Leaking Closet?

A maintenance guy from the apartment's office knocked on the door this morning asking me if I am the one who called the office requesting to check closet leaks. I was surprised because I do not know what he is talking about. I told him I did not call anybody maybe it was the people upstairs. The office staff told him it is our unit. I insisted our closet is not leaking and I did not make that call. So the maintenance guy said maybe they gave him the wrong apartment number then he walked away.

A minute later, I receive a call from my honey asking me if I called the apartment's office about a leak in the closet. I told him I did not call anybody because there is no leak in our closet. He was relieved.

Upgrade

Two months to go and we are in our first year anniversary of living here in the apartment in Fort Worth. Oh, how fast time flies...We received a notice asking if we want to renew the lease. We are also given the option of upgrades. My honey does not care about it but I would like to get an upgrade. I want them to put a ceiling fan in one of the bedrooms in the apartment. The reason why I want to get this upgrade is that summer is approaching. I want us to be more comfortable.

There are many modern ceiling fans in the market today. In fact, ceiling fans are getting popular to people who want to save electricity and lessen their monthly bills. Apartments include ceiling fan upgrades in their promotion to get more clients. Success can be seen. Modern fan company also benefits with the success, orders will grow. I hope we will have a ceiling fan upgrade this year.

Learned Another Lesson

My goodness! I did not know it was freezing cold this morning when I go to work. Yesterday was a bit warms and I enjoyed feeling the fresh sunshine on my skin. On my way to work today I was shivering and could not help utter words of help to the heavens. Letting you know, Dillard's Mall is just a walking distance from the apartment. My honey's work schedule is 8:30 in the morning, mine is 10:00 o'clock. So he leaves earlier than I. As I was saying, the freezing cold was penetrating in the innermost part of my veins. I have coat but because I am not used to wearing large sizes, I did not wear it. And I will be late if will go back to the apartment to get it. As a consequence, I ended with nasal congestion...again. Another learned lesson. (Sigh)

Shivering, Freezing, Chilling

While I am typing this post my fingers are still stinging cold! Why? I just arrived from the grocery store. My friend Norie and I went to Target to buy stuff for dinner tonight. We walked to the store since it is walking distance from the apartment. Wearing a jacket on top of my clothes is not enough.

And we had the "courage" to walk back to the apartment after getting the groceries we need, struggling against the freezing wind while carrying the bags full of stuff. My hands are chilling, face muscles shivering as the cold wind blows on my skin, and feeling the goose bumps all over my body. I am starting to have a runny nose. It is freezing cold outside!!!

Can Somebody Fix The Water Heater...Please?

We had storm last night and the cable signal was cut. Though the internet connection was fine, we turned the computer off for security purposes. The heavy rains poured all night long, lightning kept on flashing and I heard thunder once in a while. Good thing we did not experience power failure. As far as I can remember, I got some rain water for my plants while my honey took a relaxing hot shower.

This morning he told me that we do not have hot water. Disgusted, he was forced to take a shower in the freezing water. He called at the apartment's office asking what is happening. The staff said that there is something wrong with the whole apartment complex's water heater because of the storm last night, and somebody is working to fix the problem. Until this very moment there is no hot water. Surely we will be freezing cold again in the shower tomorrow.

We Got Renters For The House

Now I feel like we are starting over again. We are in the moving situation here. 'Asking where? Actually we extended our apartment lease until next year. We are not moving but the furniture and other stuff in the house will. That means we have to get all our belongings off our house in the country because we got renters. Yes. The house was in the market for a couple of months. And we are, somehow, in relief knowing that there is a couple who is interested to lease it. They came to see us and finalized the lease.

Anyway, we will head to Wylie this weekend to get all the things done. The in-laws will come over to help us to get through this moving situation. Great. We have a lot of stuff to move!

Filipina Neighbor

I am so happy because I met a Filipina in Super Target. When I was in the vegetables section looking for some ingredients for the dinner meal tonight, I already noticed that she is a Filipina. Her husband looked and smiled at me. Then after a while, she came near me and asked if I am Filipina. I said “Yes”. We started to get to know a little bit about each other. Her name is Nori and she is from Samar, Philippines-the province that is a couple of kilometers away from Leyte. Her husband is from Chicago. They've been living here in Texas for a year now.

Then they gave me a ride back to the apartment. What amazes me the most was, Nori and her husband are living in the apartment complex located at the block across the street where ours is located. Nice! Now I have a new place to hang out. We agreed to get together some time during her off from work. She is working in Super Target by the way.
