Thanksgiving Day 2013

We had a great Thanksgiving Day celebration with my husband's family.  We woke up early, got ready, and drove to our folks' so we can be there before the Thanksgiving dinner at 1:00 P.M.  We ordered breakfast to-go at McDonald's so DD, DH, and I had something to much on the road.

Everybody's busy at the folks' house.  When we arrived, the rest of the family were there already except my husband's sister because she was still at work.  We waited for her to arrive then we ate super delicious Thanksgiving feast.

Grown-ups were playing Mahjong.  I almost win it. 

We also had lots of pies-cherry pie, pumpkin pie, apple pie, and lemon squares.  They're so yummy!  I enjoyed the pumpkin pie and the lemon squares.  It was a wonderful Thanksgiving Day celebration as always.  My sister-in-law, her husband, her son, and me played Mahjong.  I haven't played in a while and I didn't know how they play it here in the US.  My MIL taught me and I was kind of getting it now.

Thanksgiving Day Is A Family's Traditional Get-Together

Cool and chilly Thursday.  Still feeling tired and sleepy, we hit the road to Whitehouse for the Thanksgiving dinner at about 8:15 yesterday morning.  It was so foggy.  My honey thought it was just a lake fog and if we are on Terrell, it'll be gone.  But it was foggy all the way to Tyler. 

Everyone was at my SIL's house.  As soon as my little girl saw her Nana, she looked very excited and started jabbering like she's telling Nana something.  My baby immediately joined her cousins playing in the living room.  They had a great time.

 

The table was already set when we arrived.  My FIL did the cutting of the turkey.  There's corn dressing, mashed potatoes, baked sweet potatoes, ham, grean beans casserole, corn salad, wine and champagne, pumpkin and lemon pies, and all other delicious foods prepared for the family's traditional Thanksgiving feast.  As always, we all had a wonderful time.

What's next is preparing for Christmas and New Year's.  I haven't done my shopping yet and I did not go to the Black Friday shopping this morning either.  I will take it easy.  No stress.

We will be going to Tyler for Thanksgiving celebration.  My SIL and her family are the hosts this year.  Like what my honey always say, we have a lot to be thankful for.  I completely agree.

It is another year of Thanksgiving.  In general, we are giving thanks for the things received...good or bad.  Because either one has been a part of our becoming...of our attitude towards life and other people.  No matter what we do, we should be thankful to God, and appreciate what's around us.

Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

I really can't wait till Thanksgiving. I'm sitting here counting the days waiting for the Macy's Thanksgiving day parade. I love to sit and watch the new floats every year. They always seem to get better every year. It's really amazing if you look back at the past years and look at how far the technology has come I was looking at pictures from back in about the 60s today of the Macy's parade then and looking at some pictures from the present day. It really amazes me how far technology has come and how much brighter the colors are and how much more detail is put into them.

I like to watch every year also to see which new singers and celebrities are there. Always seems to be somebody new and exciting, and also your old favorites. And let's not forget the marching bands and mummers. I always love to watch them.

It would definitely be more fun to actually go to New York and watch it live. But luckily I have good Satellite TV specials to watch it on with a crystal-clear image, and never seem to miss a beat. It's really great when you pump in the surround sound. Almost feels like you're right there with the bass. So even though I don't get to go and see it in person. I can still really enjoy it right from the comfort of my own home.

His Usual Dessert

Besides the big delicious turkey and main course food on Thanksgiving Day, desserts will never be out of place. Those of you who have sweet tooth like me, I bet you look at the dessert table first huh? 'Always do.

Even at home, we never ran out of desserts. I love sweets. My honey? Not much. He likes eating chocolate bars, only, after supper. That is why we stock chocolates in the fridge. I like fruits or cakes. But sometimes I eat sweets as a snack. My favorite is a cake made of chocolate. I can't get enough of that.

"There are many things to be thankful for."

That's my honey always tells me. I agree. For good things and bad things, we should always give thanks to God for we are still breathing.

We were at my sister-in-law's home yesterday to celebrate Thanksgiving Day. The temperature dropped. It was a bit chilly. The family gathered at her home at noon (we arrived a little late). She prepared lots of delicious food. It was great! Though I watched my diet, I couldn't resist to eat a lot. Glad I still maintained a balanced diet yesterday. Hahaha! It's nice to get together with family. We had fun talking about stuff. We're full too. Ah.

Avoid Out-Of-The-Area Travels

Hhmm...what did I do today as far as Thanksgiving preparation is concerned? Nothing. Though we are back in our house in the country, we are not hosting the Thanksgiving dinner for now.

We will go to my sister-in-law's home tomorrow for Thanksgiving. I was asked if I am still okay to travel. Now that I am in the full term of my pregnancy, my doctor asked me to avoid out-of-the-area travels for signs of labor might start at any time. But this one will be fine...I think.

As Soon As The Doors Open

Now is the time you should have your holiday shopping lists done. Because, pre-Thanksgiving sale is on and Black Friday is coming. Shoppers will run to the department stores very early in the morning on the day after Thanksgiving, and they will be rushing in the stores as soon as their doors open. The best deals for Christmas will be on that day.

If you will ask me, I am finished shopping for gifts. All I need to do now is an easy shop around for a few additional :) Vague? Oh, well...a woman like me likes to buy stuff anyway.
