Spring Fever Hits Today

Amaryllis bulb.  Blooming so fast.

I am having a Spring fever.  My friend bought a few pieces of Amaryllis bulb kit in pots few weeks ago.  They were sold very cheap at the store so I asked my friend to buy me one.

I didn't realize that the bulb will sprout very quickly.  I did not plant the bulb right away after I bought it.  My husband was curious what's in the pot so he checked on it and tried to feel what's in the package.  He said he felt something weird in there.  So I decided to plant it following the instructions in the kit.  Sure does the bulb has sprouted (picture 1).  It was very amazing.  The next few days the plant was completely upright with flower buds (picture 2).  We're so happy.

And here it is in full bloom.   There sure is a season for every thing.

Trying to capture a time lapse video of the bloom.

Spring Is Here Sunny And Windy - Clothing To Wear In This Weather

What a wonderful weather today. It's really nice to go out and have fun outdoors.  Plus, there's no need to wear sweaters for a few days.  Although it's sunny the whole week in Texas, the wind is blowing a little strong.  So wind breaker jackets will make you feel comfortable outdoors.  In addition to these women's spring clothes, capri shorts or lounge pants are also comfy to wear outside. For men, wind breaker jackets and pull over hoodies are also recommendable.

Don't wear a summer hat yet because the wind will just blow it away. Try to tie your hair in a pony tail if you have a long hair. It will help keep your hair in place.  Always put some lip balm and facial moisturizer on.  Our skin gets dry quickly on windy day.

Spring Coming Early This Year?

Hello everyone! It's February already.  I bet most of you cannot wait for Spring, huh?  Well, I think Spring is coming early this year.  What's your plans in the coming season?  Are you preparing Easter goodies for the kids?

I will be on vacation this Spring so I won't be in the US for Easter.  Hopefully I will be able to get some Easter stuff for my daughter while we're on vacation to the Philippines.

Saving Energy With Spring Cleaning

Boy oh boy!  Just thinking about it gives me a headache.  I am referring to Spring cleaning.  Yes.  I just started it in one room as of the moment.  And oh I can say that my back hurts already.  My goal is to finish the general cleaning this month because we are gardening again in May.  My husband will be needing my help in the yard for sure.

Spring cleaning is an annual routine.  You will find how much 'junk' you got.  Hahaha!  Just kidding.  Besides, you fill find treasure in your house, too, that you don't know off.  Eventually, we need to save money and energy too.  By adding a few extra chores to your cleaning list, you not only will enjoy a spic-and-span household, but you will also save energy and money leading into air conditioning season.  So by following these helpful tips from Farmers Electric Coop we will be able to minimize energy consumption.

1.  Dust your lamps and lightbulbs.  The dust and grime on the bulb make it dirty, reducing the amount of light it gives off.  Replace burned out incandescent with energy-efficient CFLs.

2. Clean your air filter.  It it's over a month old, replace it.  Replacing the air filters allow your HVAC system to run more efficiently.

3.  Clean the air-return vents.  Make sure drapes and furniture are not blocking them.

4.  Dust your blinds.  House too cool for comfort?  Leave blinds open to let the sun's rays heat your home.  Home too warm?  Keep them closed to block the sunlight, keeping your home insulated.

5.  Vacuum the refrigerator coils.  The dust buildup causes the fridge to run less efficiently.

6.  Thoroughly dust your electronics, and if they are not in use, unplug them.

7.  Scrub your tub, and then install a low-flow showerhead.

I hope these help you organize your Spring cleaning ritual too.

The Leaks Have Gone Worse

My honey is very frustrated because there's a big leak mark in the ceiling in the guestroom.  He thought it was already fixed when he went up on the roof few days ago.  But when the storm came, the leak just got worse. From the ceiling, the leak marks ran down to the wall.  It looks really terrible.

We need to get this leak problem fixed.  Something is not right on how the roof vents are done.  It needs a professional service and repair.  Like I said before, our house needs repainting, redecorating, and repairs.  Spring season is the best time to do all of these.  It is going to be a busy year for the house and for us too.

Traditional And Modern Gifts For 4th Wedding Anniversary

I am loving the Spring weather so far.  Although the winds are kinda chilly, the sunshine and the lovely blooms bring happy feelings to me.  The green grass smells nice and the birds sing happily in the trees as they feel the breeze.  Most of all excitement comes to me as soon as the Spring comes because in April my honey and I are celebrating our wedding anniversary.  I was a Spring Bride you know.

Three weeks from now and it is our 4th wedding anniversary.  I am trying to think of something to give as a gift for my honey.  They said that the traditional gifts for the 4th wedding anniversary are fruits or flowers.  The modern gift ideas are appliances.  Well, I think I'll go with the modern.  I know what to buy.  The problem is, when I get excited like this, I might give a hint.

How about you?  What do you love about Spring?

Happy Spring Cleaning!

My honey and I were talking about cleaning up this coming Spring.  It has been a tradition to do Spring cleaning here.  We will do a big garage sale when the weather gets very nice one weekend.  I will join the neighborhood's yard sale too. We have lots of stuff to get rid of.  There are many things in the house that need replacement.

For now, I am starting with my stuff.  Yes.  I need to get rid of unused personal items like handbags, shoes, and clothing.  Some of them are really nice and it kinda break my heart to give them away.  So, I am deciding to sell them whenever I get the chance.  For any amount I save from this activity will benefit my grandpa because he is maintaining a medication for an infection treatment.  And I am setting up a space on eBay.com so y'all can check the other items for sale too.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day.  Happy Spring cleaning!

So They Can Sprout

Me and my family stopped by at Home Depot to get some tomato seeds. My honey wants to start planting them so they can sprout and ready for transfer in the plot after the last freeze. He also bought pots for my herb seeds (from hometownseeds.com).

There are different types of flowering plants in the store too. I sure wanted to buy a couple but our flower bed is not ready yet.

Trying To Get In Shape For The Season

Oh no! Longer days are here. And Spring is here. Colorful flowers and beautiful weather...I love it! Makes me always think about my wedding three years ago.

Anyway, there will be lots of Spring apparels on display in the stores. I always liked the multi-colored dresses because they never get out of style. Another thing that excites me about this season is the various selection on infant clothing. My baby girl will surely look pretty in Spring dresses. Me? I love dresses too. But I will focus on trying to get in shape so I can wear swimsuits. It would be nice to back in my pre-pregnancy body again soon.

April Showers Bring May Flowers

As we enjoy the warmth of Spring, the trees and flowering plants are growing their leaves again. It won't be long, we will see the beauty of blooms around us.

When my honey and I were on our way to the Easter Sunday gathering (in Garland), we saw blooms of Bluebonnets by the highways. He thinks it is early for the flowers to show up. But the rains from the past season helped nourish the soil so early blooms will come out he said.

This morning, it's overcast and seemed like there was some sprinkles from the sky. I asked if there's a bad weather coming. "I did not hear anything from the news," he said. "Spring is the season when we get strong thunderstorms and rains. But it is good for the plants though. April showers bring May flowers."

Hanging Plant Growers

Spring is coming again. And my mother-in-law's birthday gift from her daughter is very much in for the season. It is a hanging tomato grower! I haven't seen a grower like that before. It is kinda weird to have tomatoes grow upside down. But my mother-in-law wants to have one.

Well, it is gardening time again. My plants? Nah, they are gone. I do not know if I can still revive one of them. 'Really makes me sad :(

Weekend Snapshot: Spring By The Front Door

It was Spring last year when we moved in this apartment complex in Fort Worth. And this is the first time I took a picture of the Amaryllis plant right in front of our apartment unit. I did not pay attention to this plant until today. There are three of them and they are beginning to bloom! Yey! They are giving us flowers.

I wonder how long these plants have been here.

Organically Healthy Garden

This year, Spring officially starts on March 20. But as early as now, we are beginning to see the green colors around us again. The trees inside and out of the apartment complex is starting to grow their leaves too. My roses, on the other hand, are not doing any good. They were very pretty and blooming last year until the winter came. They started to wither then I saw little bitty white bugs around their leaves. My father-in-law told me to spray organic bug control on the leaves to kill the bugs. The bugs eat the leaves and nutrients, which cause the plants to die. Spraying bug control keeps harmful bugs from ruining the plants' growth.

My honey's parents have a very beautiful garden in the backyard of their house in Tyler. Their roses and other flowering plants bloom bunches of flowers. And their ornamental plants are very healthy! My father-in-law does most of the gardening work. He takes care of his plants and the garden itself. He likes watching TV shows about home and gardening where he gets information about good organic pest control products as well as effective gardening tips.

There is no doubt his garden will look very pretty this Spring. And I cannot wait to see my roses bloom again.
